Food Guide: Breakfast in Douglas

Apr 26, 2024

The most common request from our guests was for recommendations on dining options. Given the significant changes in the food and catering industry landscape on the Isle of Man since COVID, few online food guides remain up-to-date. Therefore, rather than directing our guests to search online or consult ChatGPT, we took the initiative to conduct our own thorough research. As a result, we have compiled a series of food guides summarizing our findings to better assist our guests.

In this series of articles, we aim to explore the top dining spots at various times of the day, across different food categories and price ranges, and in various locations. Our research is not limited to online sources; we also incorporate our own experiences and those of our acquaintances.

It's important to mention that the opening days and hours provided in our guide are for informational purposes only. Despite our efforts to maintain accurate and up-to-date information, considering the dynamic nature of the industry and its seasonal fluctuations, we highly recommend that our guests contact the restaurants to make reservations before visiting.

Introduction

To kick off our discovery, we opted to concentrate on Douglas, where one of our premier holiday rental, Tre, is situated. Douglas boasts the highest concentration of restaurants and eateries on the island, presenting a diverse array of cuisines across various price points.

Great Food in a Stylish Setting

In Douglas, where breakfast options abound, kickstarting your culinary journey couldn't be better. For those seeking top-notch island cuisine against the backdrop of breathtaking sea vistas, Coast Bar & Brasserie within the 4-star Claremount Hotel on Loch Promenade is a must-visit. Boasting an executive chef with a prestigious background in London's Michelin-starred restaurants, it stands out as one of the island's premier destinations for refined dining experiences.

If you're not inclined towards fine dining for breakfast but still crave a superb ambiance and quality fare, Douglas offers ample alternatives. Noa Markethall is among these delightful options. Situated in the historic Douglas Market Hall, Noa boasts a charming blend of rustic and contemporary interior design. Its prime location along the North Quay, one of Douglas's most scenic spots, adds to its allure. With Noa also running one of the island's finest sourdough bakeries, you can expect nothing short of top-notch culinary delights.

The Tea Junction, a renowned café located in the heart of the city, is an excellent breakfast option for those seeking nothing but the finest. While tea is their specialty, boasting over 20 varieties, this elegantly decorated teahouse also offers delightful food dishes. Sadly, the current owner has announced the closure of the business by 2025. With a new owner yet to be named, it's advisable to seize the remaining opportunities to savor meals in this iconic establishment.

For a breakfast experience crafted from the freshest local ingredients within a nostalgic setting, look no further than Tickethall. Nestled in the historic Douglas Railway Station, it guarantees an outstanding dining experience for everyone, complemented by warm hospitality and a central location in the capital.

Budget-friendly Options with Decent Quality

For those seeking a wallet-friendly option in a relaxed atmosphere, Douglas offers a diverse range of choices. Among them is Caff, conveniently situated near the Sea Terminal and opening its doors at 6:30 am daily. This English breakfast café, which offers both dine-in as well as takeaway options, is a favorite among early-morning ferry travelers, offering budget-friendly meals alongside friendly service.

If you're craving more than just the classic English breakfast, Douglas has you covered. Situated in the city center, Capone’s Diner offers a diverse selection of budget-friendly English/Italian fast-food options, ranging from breakfast dishes to burgers, paninis, and ciabattas. You can enjoy your meal either in the diner or opt for takeaway.

Want Something Different?

For breakfast enthusiasts craving an Asian flair, Froth Coffee Shop is an ideal destination. Situated in upper Douglas, just a stroll away from Tre, this family-operated café serves up a delightful array of light Chinese dishes like dim sum and wonton soup noodles, alongside traditional English breakfast fare and other fast-food choices.

If you're embarking on a cycling or motorcycle adventure around the island, Cycle 360 is an excellent spot to kickstart your day of exploration. Combining a coffee shop and bike store, it offers locally sourced ingredients crafted into homemade breakfast delights alongside freshly brewed coffee. While slightly off the city center, it's well worth the detour for an eclectic start to your day.

Visitors who reserve a stay in any of our holiday cottages will receive a complimentary copy of our comprehensive Food Guide, featuring valuable details including contact information, operating hours, and customer ratings.
